I recently read an article of the Steve Jobs' (Apple founder) visit to Kyoko. He liked Kyoto very much so he visited Kyoto several times. One of the reasons he liked Kyoto was that in Kyoto he found things which were made simple and well though out. This reminded me of the paintings of a famous Chinese artist Bada Shanren.
"Bada Shanren (Chinese: 八大山人; pinyin: Bādà Shānrén; c. 1626 – 1705), born Zhu Da (Chinese: 朱耷; pinyin: Zhū Dā), was a Chinese Buddhist monk, calligrapher, and painter of the ink wash painting style.
-----
His paintings feature sharp brush strokes which are attributed to the sideways manner by which he held his brush. In the 1930s, Chinese painter Zhang Daqian produced several forgeries of Bada Shanren's works but they are easily spotted by the trained eye, because the modern copies were softer and rounder.

I checked his paintings on the net. My memory was correct. Most of his paintings were made simple and well though out or very simple and very well though out. <Very well though out> is mostly due to the compositions as most of his works are black and white, no color. Some people praise the brush strokes and ink management.

My favorites (excluding very well known ones)
These three are superb.
As the market (auction) prices are sky-high and the paintings are simple (not many strokes) there are many fakes.
This may be fake or failure.
This is very exceptional. Colored. Very good but does not remind me of Bada Shanren.
